Iron Sharpens Iron
"Iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another" - Proverbs 27:17
We need other people.
We need community.
We can’t live in an isolated bubble by ourselves and expect to grow and mature.
This is true in every aspect of our lives, whether it be work, church, family, etc. We were designed to do life with others.
The Bible talks about how God has made each one of us different, and given each one varying gifts. In 1 Corinthians 12 the Apostle Paul liken us as Christians to a body, “the body of Christ.”
He talks about how a body has many members, and each member is different, it has a different function. Without all the member of the body working together and complimenting one another, we would be handicapped.
So what does this have to do with iron. King Solomon tells us in proverbs that as people we need others to help sharpen and shape us. We need each other.
But it is not enough just to have others around, but we need to be invested in each other. We need to be mentoring, discipling, and pouring into (“sharpening”) each other.
Do you have other people in your life that help “sharpen” you? Do you have other that you are pouring yourself into?
