Frequently Asked Questions

What can I send to my child?

Anytime you wish to send your child a letter, you may do so be mailing it to our Mission E4 Massachusetts office. Although, the postal system is virtually non-existent in more impoverished regions, our staff travels every year to Albania and many times through the year to Haiti. We will personally see your letters delivered to your children and will have them write back to you.

Although, we are not limiting the amount of times you write to your child during the year, we ask that if you wish to send money, you would limit this to a maximum of $20 per letter and no more than $100 in a year. Even these amounts are quite substantial in a country like Haiti, with an average per capita income of $350 annually. Sending even $20 once in the year would be equivalent to someone sending your child in the USA a gift that equals 5% of your annual income. One hundred dollars in gifts is equal to the monthly pay of a professional carpenter or mason in the country of Haiti.

Please help us to create a healthier gift-giving platform by channeling your extra gift-giving for your sponsored child into our “Every Child Deserves a Christmas” Fund, and by keeping any financial gifts to your children within the parameters we have outlined. Thank you for helping us to make our programs healthier for every child, with each passing year.

How do I give to the "Every Child Deserves Christmas Fund?

Beginning in 2018, we are beginning a new aspect to our program, called, “Every Child Deserves a Christmas” (ECDC). Instead of allowing sponsors the opportunity to send gift packages to their children (as in the past), every sponsor will have an opportunity, all year long, to give as they are able into our “ECDC Fund”. Each December, we will use these funds for a Christmas party at each school location. Every child will receive a gift. Our Directors in Albania and Haiti will be able to determine the greatest needs of our students, based on what we can provide equally, with the amount paid into the “ECDC Fund.”

In order to give towards this fund, you can add any amount to your monthly sponsorship payment and note that the additional amount is for the "ECDC" Fund. You can also give an additional gift to this fund at anytime through mail or electronic donations on the website.

Can I send a gift to my child?

The short answer is no.

Every year, Mission E4 strives to get better and better at what we do; Leading Effective Response to a World in Need. Over these past 13 years, it has been amazing to see the generosity of so many sponsors. The monthly sponsorship itself, makes the largest difference, providing academic and life skills education, daily school food, free medical care and more.

Additionally, many have enjoyed sending gift packages each year in October to their children and financial gifts periodically for their families. Although this has truly been a tremendous blessing to these families, we have also seen that it has had some unintended negative consequences. Over these past years, we have only seen about 20% of the children in our program receive these periodic gifts, and although we have tried to guide the process, many of these gifts have not been equal, one with another.

In many situations this created some unhealthy, family and community relationship issues. Many children and families have struggled with ongoing jealousy and we have found in some cases, the gifts themselves have created socioeconomic rifts in relationships.

Can I visit with my child when I come to Haiti?

Yes! We love having sponsors come to Haiti. We always have a time planned into the team weeks where sponsors can visit with their children.

What can I bring with me for my child when I visit Haiti?

Although we have moved away from allowing sponsors to send gift to their children. We do allow you to bring a small bag or backpack along with you if you are personally coming to Haiti. You can give this gift to your child when you meet with them during the team week. We ask that you do not bring any candy, as dental care in Haiti is extremely limited.
